David Allen decided early in his life he wanted to be an attorney. He grew up in a blue collar family in an area of heavy industry. He saw how injury and disability devastated the lives of families.
He worked his way through college by taking the night shift at his local paper mill. After graduation he began work in the insurance industry , becoming one of the youngest casualty claims supervisors with CNA Insurance. He oversaw a claims unit handling approximately 250 new cases a week.
David Allen started law school in 1975 attending the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. McGeorge selected him to represent it on its International Moot Court Competition Team in 1977 and its Trial Advocacy Competition Team in 1978. The brief which the Moot Court Team authored placed second in the country. During the Trial Advocacy Competition, the judges recognized David Allen with an award of “Best Advocate”.

In 1980, David Allen founded the firm which became David Allen & Associates. Due to his strong background and expertise in insurance the firm initially represented insurance companies. He provided representation for the insurance industry in the MGM multidistrict fire litigation and also obtained dismissal of a billion dollar gaming suit brought against a major casino. Today he is the managing partner of a multi-state firm which represents people bringing claims against insurance companies. The firm provides representation for personal injury, wrongful death, disability insurance bad faith as well as Social Security Disability.
The Nevada Supreme Court selected David Allen to serve on a committee to study the role of lawyer advertising in Nevada and make recommendations in 1990. The Court commended him for serving with distinction. In 1994 David Allen was instrumental in developing compromise language for the vigorously debated California law which now governs lawyer advertising in California through Business and Professions Code Section 6158.3 He hosted LawTalk, a call-in radio show heard in five western states, for nine years. He was a legal commentator for the ABC affiliate KXTV in Northern California for four years. David Allen previously conducted legal seminars for the Nevada Bar and McGeorge School of Law. He remains active in a variety of programs enhancing the public understanding of the practice of law. These include video legal blogs at www.legalvideoblog.com and the Anthony M. Kennedy Inn of Court.
He is active in his faith as a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral serving as a lay reader, an intercessor, and lay eucharistic minister. He foundered and serves as chair of the Trinity Art Show, is a member of the UC Davis Medical Pain Management Advisory Board, the Crocker Museum Directors Circle, is a past board member of the East Sacramento Improvement Association, past member of the Sacramento County Air Port Noise Reduction Committee, served four years as the president of the Nevada Policy Research Institute, was instrumental in the development of the Sacramento Food Bank and author of the forward to the book which describes the development of the Food Bank, “Many Hands Many Miracles”. He is also a member of the Chaine Des Rotisseurs, as well as founder and member of the 42nd Street Poker Club.
