SSD Hearing Attorneys throughout California, Nevada and the West

If you are denied Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits and the denial gets upheld on reconsideration, the next step is to request a hearing before an administrative law judge (ALJ) at the Social Security Administration. During the hearing, you will have the opportunity to argue your case, present additional evidence in support of your claim, and have witnesses testify on your behalf. If, following the hearing, the judge believes that you are entitled to benefits, he or she will issue a decision reversing your application’s denial.

Clearly, the hearing is something to be taken very seriously. If you win, you get the benefits you deserve. If you lose, you must either forego benefits or continue with the appeals process – which can easily take a year or longer. Our lawyers are here to help you prepare for your SSD hearing and represent you in front of the ALJ. With offices throughout California and Nevada, including in Sacramento and Oakland, we assist clients throughout the Western United States in SSD appeals.

How to Prepare for Your SSD Hearing at the Social Security Administration

Our attorneys recommend the following when preparing for your SSD hearing:
  • Get thorough medical care and follow up with your treatment plan. Medical reports are the most important factor in most disability determinations. See your primary physician as well as any specialists to whom you are referred. Attend follow-up appointments as directed, and take medication as prescribed.
  • Make sure your medical records are complete. Keep track of every doctor appointment you attend, and make sure you receive a written diagnosis at each visit. Write down the full names and addresses of any doctor who treats you.
  • Find people to testify about your disability. Your Social Security Disability attorney is not the only person who can help you at a hearing. Reach out to friends and relatives who are familiar with your disability. Their testimony regarding your reduced capabilities since your injury or illness can make a strong impression on the administrative law judge who decides your case.
  • Describe your disability honestly and clearly. Be prepared to give as much detail as you can about the pain you suffer and the tasks you can no longer perform, but do not exaggerate. Simply present an honest picture of your condition to the ALJ.
  • Be polite to the ALJ and other Social Security personnel. Do not take out your frustrations on the people who handle your disability application and hearing. You need them on your side.
When you work with the Sacramento Social Security appeal lawyers at David Allen & Associates, we will meticulously prepare to present your case to the ALJ. We will do all of the leg work for you, and we will help you prepare to present yourself in a favorable and meaningful way. Simply put, you will feel confident going into your hearing, and we will too.
